Recent Search Engine share as published by comScore puts Google at 43.7% followed by Yahoo at 28.8% and MSN at 12.8%. And in some countries like Japan, Google is still at # 10 position, the top position being enjoyed by Yahoo. Though most SEOs or website owners concentrate primarily on optimizing their sites for Google, we can not just afford to lose valuable traffic from Yahoo and MSN. By committing some time and efforts on Yahoo optimization, it is quite possible to gain a good amount of traffic.

One of the open secrets for getting high rankings in Yahoo is to get listed in Yahoo directory. But the cost of $299 to $600 per year may be too high for many of us; besides there is no guarantee that Yahoo will include your site in their directory even after you make the payment.

Well, all search engines have their own algorithms to determine the search results and ranking the websites. Like Google, Yahoo too judges content to be the most important factor in their algorithms. Yahoo also places a lot of importance on keyword density; though Google prefers a keyword density of around 2 %, Yahoo favors sites with keyword density of 7 to 8%. Yahoo also gives importance to the description tags which most Google centered SEOs tend to neglect.

I recommend a good article which I came across on SEO for Yahoo which discusses many such SEO techniques for optimizing your site for Yahoo.

Friendster was funded by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Benchmark Capital in October 2003 with a reported valuation of $53 million.

In April 2004, John Abrams was removed as CEO and Tim Koogle replaced Abrams as interim CEO. Koogle previously served as President and CEO at Yahoo!. I made complied these tips since teens loves taking picture every part of moments. If you're planning to buy a digicam, or you wanted to replace your oldies digicam.

Here's a useful compilation of tips I made for best buying Digicam.

RESOLUTION
Buy a camera that is capable of capturing enough pixels.
Preferably a digicam would work with images captured at 5.0 MEGA PIXELS or higher, because this will give us better image quality.

Choose the right camera settings.
In general, look for some setting that specifies the pixel dimensions—for example, 1,600 x 1,200. The horizontal dimension is always given first, and we need an image at least 1,500 pixels wide in order to capture adequate information to produce a reasonably large, print-quality photo, so choose a setting at least that high.

Bear in mind that a high resolution will not in itself guarantee a high-quality image. There are other factors that affect image quality, including compression, lens quality, exposure settings, lighting, and composition, so pay attention to these aspects as well.

COMPRESSION
Compress images automatically, using JPEG format.
Here’s an important note regarding the terminology used to describe your camera’s compression options: The terms vary from one brand of camera to the next, but typically, the compression options listed will be something like “Good/Better/Best.” These refer to the quality of the photo, not the amount of compression. Thus, choosing “Best” will give you minimum compression, and thus the best picture quality.

OPTICS
Quality of the lens is important.
A zoom length of 3X is good. The more the better, as it gives you added flexibility. Make sure it’s made of glass, not plastic. When choosing a camera, be sure to get one that offers true, optical zoom, and disregard the digital zoom feature. Digital zoom introduces “jaggies” into an image—basically, a stair-stepped, blurred look when trying to shoot a moving object.

MEMORY CAPACITY
A high resolution is needed when your photos will be used in print.
A recommended digicam to buy is that accepts removable storage media. As for teens like us it is best to load up your camera with 512 MB of memory or higher when taking moments additively.

MANUAL CONTROLS
Digicameras with the rich feature sets also have better image capture abilities, so even if you don’t use those extra controls, you get something for your money: better picture quality. It is recommended you buy a camera that you can “grow into,” and learn its extra features at your own pace.

BATTERIES
Digital cameras tend to use lots of power, so they deplete batteries fairly quickly.
The number of pictures will vary, since power requirements differ depending on whether you’re using the flash, and/or the LCD screen, so keep this in mind.

Rechargeable Lithium batteries cost twice as much as alkaline batteries but last three times as long, so you might wish to choose a camera that accepts them.

At BBspot we pull back from the boring benchmarks to compare the superficialities, and we do it all on a single page. Now that Firefox is gaining ground on Internet Explorer it is time to compare the two face to face.

Internet Explorer - Microsoft leaves no doubt what their products are. If they made toilet paper it would be called Butt Wiper. Internet Explorer isn't a bad name, but it's not spectacular.

Firefox - On the other end of the spectrum, the name Firefox gives no clue to what it is. Could be a car? 80s video game? Lame comic book superhero? Flaming dish at a wild game restaurant? Five Common Myths About Search Engine Submission

Search engine submission is a matter that often mystifies those who are new to the Internet. It is natural to scratch your head and wonder how you will get your website listed on the major search engines. If you ask someone how to go about getting your site listed you are likely to hear many misconceptions about search engine submission. You may even be taken for a ride and end up needlessly parting with some hard earned cash. So, before this happens to you let’s examine some of the most common myths surrounding search engine submission.

1. Search Engine Submission is a Very Important Matter

It would indeed seem that you submitting your site to the search engines is of utmost importance. After all, if your site is not in the search engines then how will anybody find you? Sure, you have to be included in the search engines but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have to actively “submit” your site. This is because search engines use their “spiders”, or robotic search programs to scour the Internet looking for new pages. If another site, that is already included in the search engines, links to yours, then when a search engine spider visits that site, it will follow the link to your site and gather your information.

So, if you are building a new site make sure that you get some links to your sites from already established sites. Ask your webmaster, your friends, other organizations and complementary sites for links. This will be enough to get you listed in the major search engines. You may still want to submit your site to make sure, but consider the other points before you go ahead

2. There are thousands of search engines that you should be listed in

“Get listed in 300,000 search engines” read the headlines for some submission advertisements. If you look at the traffic logs of most websites you will see that the lion’s share of traffic comes from a handful of search locations, such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves. There just aren’t thousands of search sites on the Internet. So, don’t pay money to be listed on these sites. Oftentimes, the sites referred to in these advertisements are seldom-visited free-for-all links pages. If you get listed on such a page you will not get much traffic, but you will get a lot of spam.

Concentrate on the major search engines and don’t worry about the non-existent phantoms referred to in the advertisements.

3. Monthly submission to search engines is a must

In the early days of the Internet, the companies that handled search engine submission warned the public that sites can be easily lost from search engine indexes and that to prevent this from happening it is important to resubmit your site every months. They also said that this was a good way to let search engines know about new additions to your pages.

It is not very likely that your site will disappear from a search engine for no reason at all. If your site is “down” for a considerable amount of time then it might be possible for your site to be dropped from the listings, but otherwise this rarely happens.

Also, you don’t have to resubmit your site to notify search engines about changes to your page or pages. The spiders of search engines regularly revisit pages that are already in the index. You can in fact create a “robots” meta tag and give instructions such as “revisit every 15 days” and this will accomplish the job better than a resubmission.

4. Automatic submissions are useless and you must submit manually

There is often a hot debate about whether manual submissions are better than automatic submissions. For Yahoo, MSN and Google it is now better to do it with a manual submission because all of these engines require you to fill in a code word that is displayed on the screen. These search engines instituted this procedure to block out automated spam submissions. So, for the giants of search, manual submission is the way to go.

What about the secondary sites? There are smaller search engines and directories. Some of them can be useful to you, especially if they represent a particular geographic area or business niche that you are aiming for. If the list of these secondary engines and directories becomes too large, then you may want to consider automated submission. There are some programs that do this or you can find submission services that are free or inexpensive, which brings us to the last myth.

5. You should be prepared to spend a lot of money to get proper submission

If you look at the first point you will see that you probably don’t have to do any submission at all to get your site listed in Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves. These are the search engines that will provide you with 90% of your visitors. So, do you really want to spend a good amount of money to reach the last 5 or 10 per cent of your possible visitors? Look around for a free or inexpensive service to take care of the secondary search engines, and if there are smaller search engines that are very important to your business, then visit them yourself and submit your listing. Save your money for other important tasks.

On Monday, October 9, 2006, Google Inc. announced its decision to purchase YouTube, the popular video-sharing site, for $1.65 billion in stock. Following the closure of the deal, YouTube will operate independently, "to preserve" its user community and its brand, the announcement said.

GOOGLE OPTIMIZATION TIPS

Owning a website is a cool thing in itself, but it's even greater if you're able to welcome a lot of visitors to it. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this, is by making sure your site is easily found through search engines like Google.

In contrary to what the SPAM flooding our inbox is promising ("submit to 500 search engines!", "Guaranteed Top Rankings!", "Free beer included!"), there is no quick and dirty way to accomplish this. On the other hand, the secrecy and vague terminology used by dedicated SearchEngineOptimization bureaus are mostly a means to mask there's nothing secret or difficult about optimizing your website for search engines. Let's give it a quick start...

About search engines

The two biggest search engines worldwide are Google (used by Google / AOL) and Overture (used by MSN / Yahoo). Google fills it's database mainly by letting robots automatically crawl and index the web. The Overture database is mainly filled through affiliate programs. That will cost you, so let's focus on Google for now. Google is the cooler one anyway...

A bot visit

You can request a Google robot visit at www.google.com/addurl. The robot will browse your site and index it's contents. Expect to have to wait for a couple of weeks before this will happen. Also, always list your site at www.dmoz.org. This is Google's webdirectory and, next to the google robot, an important source of the google search API. Dutch sites can be listed at www.dmoz.nl (used by google.nl).

Get your keywords

Your website is not ranked as a whole. Keywords are used to determine the relevancy of your website for particular subjects. So, before buiding your site, make sure you have a relevant set of keywords. Check competing websites for keywords / search terms and use the good ones for yourself. You can get an indication on the frequency people search for a certain keyword (and alternatives to it) at inventory.overture.com. You can find synonyms for certain keywords at www.thesaurus.com.

Place your keywords

The most important elements to insert keywords into are the URL (domain name + path + filename) and title of your web page. Also, a low-level URL (www.mysite.com/page.htm) is considered more important than a higher level URL (www.mysite.com/subdir/anothersubdir/page.htm). Check out the Dutch website Nu.nl for a good example. Notice how every newsitem has it's own title in the titlebar and how every item's html file is named after its title. These tricks make you score!

It's also important to use your keywords in the body of your site, frequency (a lot) and proximity (close to each other) are important. The higher in a page, the more important a keyword is considered to be. Text in headline (h1 or h2), bold or caps is considered more important than regular text.

Check your keywords

Once you think you have found the right keywords and you've written your text so that these keywords appear all over the page, it's time to check out how your site is doing. At googlerankings.com you can check your position in Google for the keywords you have chosen. Top of the ranks? Great! Not even close to it? Don't worry, here are some tips to improve your rankings.

Tech and formatting tips

First, make sure your site, especially your homepage, is frequently updated. Google seems to like frequently changing websites, this might be why weblogs tend to score very well at Google.

Second, make sure to have a lot of incoming and outgoing links (especially to and from big, relevant, high-quality websites). If something can be a link, make it a link! By doing so, Google will rank you pages higher as others who are not that embedded. This link relevancy system is called Google Pagerank. You can check out your pagerank at pagerank.net. Pagerank works on a scale from 1 to 10. If you have a rank of 1 or 2, you're likely to be way down the search results. If you have a higher rank, your site will appear at the top of the search results, even if there are a lot of competitors for your specific keywords or business.

Third, make sure your site is clean and correctly formatted, preferably in web standards / xhtml. Avoid certain technologies the Google robot doesn't understand. Don't use a frameset for your website. Robots may skip frames or only index the upper one (refering will be a mess anyway). Avoid javascript or Flash menus, only a.href links are followed by a robot. Additionally, all javascript and comments are skipped by search robots.

For the same reason, full-flash websites should be avoided if search accessibility is important (actually, if ANY accessibility is important). If you do feel the strong need to use Flash, all you can do is to make sure you have a keyword descriptive URL and page title.

Some last remarks

Google simply puts a 30 days block upon sites that use trivial keyword tricks (hidden text/div or text in the same color as a background), so don't bother trying this kind of stuff. Detecting and catching a robot with javascript or IP cloacing or using linkfarms to boost your Pagerank are considered even more illegal. They could get you put out of the ranking for good.

Just remember that a robot will be optimized over and over to be able to judge webpages the way a human does. In the end, if you make sure your site is clean and accessible and your content is good and relevant, websurfers will find you and bytes will flow.

Google may or may not be the biggest search engine of all the search engines but for most web sites, Google refers more traffic than any other search engine. So it's imperative that your site is indexed in Google.

With having a reach to more than 100 million searches performed daily it makes sense that why people give more importance to Google than to any other search engine while trying to rank high in them.

But for ranking high your website must be listed under a particular search engine. Here in this article I will tell you how you can get listed in Google by following any of the three simple steps.

1. Submit your website directly to Google

This is the most common and the simplest way of getting your site listed in Google what you have to do is just tell Google that your site exists and Google will find you. Just go to http://www.google.com/addurl.html and submit your website to Google however this submission can't guarantee you inclusion.

It is also believed by many of the experts that Google gives more importance to a site that Google finds on its own. Well this may be or may not be true.

2. Get Listed in The Major Directories

Google is one of the major search engines and it keeps crawling the major directories frequently so if you get your site listed in one of the major directories like: Yahoo, Dmoz or Looksmart then it will automatically find you following the link from the directories.

3. Get lots of high quality incoming links

This is the best way to get listed in Google or in any other search engine. The strategy is simple and straight just get lots of high quality incoming to your site and get listed in Google much quicker. This is the most easiest way of getting links to your site.

The major advantage of this is that you can list all of your pages in very small amount time if your inner linking structure is correct. I personally emphasize on this because I don't have enough time to submit my hundreds of pages to each search engine while knowing that submitting only a single page per site per day is under the search engine's guidelines and exceeding this amount can be seen as spam.

How to choose your Link Partner

To link or not to link? That is the question we face when we receive e-mail from people asking us to make a link to their website, or when we are looking for link partners ourselves and find a prospective site. How can we decide if it is worthwhile to take the effort to make a link for such site? If we look at the fundamental reasons for making link exchanges in the first place, then it is easy to decide which link possibilities we should pursue and which we should drop.

So what are the most important reasons for exchanging links? They are as follows:

1. To get more traffic to our websites:

People just love to follow links on the Internet. They love to poke around and follow their interests and see where it will lead. I know this from my own taste but more importantly, when I look at traffic logs for various websites, I see that link pages are very popular on many sites. So, if your site is well placed on link pages around the Internet you can definitely expect some additional traffic from these links.

Keeping this in mind. When you are reviewing the site of a potential link partner, take a look at how that site displays the links. Is the links page visible, and linked to the other pages of the website? Some people want to exchange links but they don’t want people to leave their website through links to other websites, and they do not even provide a path to their link pages or make it very difficult to find. You can never get any additional traffic from a listing on a site like this, and if this is the case, you should just forget about linking.

Also, if the links are haphazardly arranged, 200 links on one page with no apparent order, your chances of getting traffic is also reduced. Will your link be buried in a huge directory, many layers removed from the main pages of the site? Look at the possible placement of your link, and judge it from the standpoint of visibility and its capacity to generate traffic to your site.

2. To add value to your website:

Your website is valuable to your visitors if it provides information that they need. The articles, products and other content that you publish is your first source of material for satisfying the needs of your visitors, but the links you provide can also make your site an important source of information and a convenient place for people to visit and revisit.

Accordingly, choose your links from the standpoint of satisfying the needs of your clientele. If your site is offering web hosting, for example, then it is likely that your visitors will also be interested in web design, graphics, software, website promotion, etc. By providing a directory of links to such products and services you will be adding value to your website.

Just as you carefully consider what products you are offering or what your own information articles contain, consider the value that the various links offer. Do the products or services look shoddy or below the standard of your website, if so then do not go after the link. Is the product or service completely unrelated to your website? If so, then it doesn’t really add much to the site.

A well constructed directory of valuable resource links that complement your own offerings should be your goal, and you should judge potential link partners on how well they fit into that picture.

3. To Build Link Popularity and Boost Ranking in Search Engine Results:

Results in search engine queries are determined by the material you have presented on your web page, and by other off-page factors, such as, how many other sites link to your site. The concept of link popularity got a huge boost from Google whose Page Rank system, not only weighs the amount of links that point to your site, but the quality of those incoming links.

Indeed, if you make a query on Google as follows: link: www.yoursite.com . You will get a list of sites that link to you. But in this list are not all the links that you have. Currently they are only from web pages whose Google Page Rank is 4 or higher. From this standpoint, in order to increase your results in Google, you need links from sites whose main pages have a high Google Page Rank and whose link pages are similarly well ranked.

Does this mean that we shouldn’t link to sites if their Page Rank is less than 4? Not necessarily. Remember, a page that is 0 today, can get higher ranking tomorrow. Also, just as you may be starting out from scratch, other sites are similarly beginning their life on the web and we should take this into account, and be generous.

Finally, weigh all the factors when considering link candidates, and balance it against the time you have to do for this task, and choose your link partners. If you do this work diligently and carefully you will be rewarded for your efforts.

But also don't say no to anyone just because his PR is 0 do exchange links if his site is related and is quality because a PR 0 of now can mean a PR 6 tomorrow. Always prefer a text link when exchanging links because search engines cant index dynamic ones and always try to use your most important keywords (that you want to rank for) in the anchor text of the links.

Directory Submission

What could be the best way to get free one way and quality links except getting listed in directories. Dont stay limited to Yahoo and Dmoz only there are hundreds of other quality free and paid directories that can give you a great link popularity if you get listed. However there are many automated tools that can submit your website to the directories but these tool are not recommended by me because these automated submission tools are not liked by the directories. So it is recommended that use manual submission, but if you don't have this much time to submit to each directory by yourself then just hire someone to do this for you.

How Google Calculates A Site's Page Rank

The easiest way to explain the page ranking calculation at Google is to think of it as a voting system. If we place a link to someone’s web site on one of our web pages, then it means we are voting for that site.

If our site is important enough to have other site's voting for it, (meaning that they've placed a link to my site on their pages), our link to you will help raise your page ranking.

However, if our site is NOT important in the eyes of the Google-bots because the sites that link to us do not have a page rank of at least 4 of 10, well then, our link isn't going to do much good at all. In fact, sites with a page rank lower than 4 of 10 won't count as an incoming link at all.

Google will only consider a link pointing to your site, if the site that's pointing to you has a page rank of at least 4 of 10.

It means that Google is trying to provide quality content sites with more exposure and by using their page ranking system, only the sites with relevant, quality content will be considered in both the search results and the link exchange calculations.

So, Who Should We Exchange Links With?

As in anything else we do, we should link to sites that we truly believe offer useful content to our site's visitors. The Page Ranking System that Google has in place makes it useless to inadvertently add links to other sites for the sole purpose of 'trading links'.

The reality of the situation is, if you are trading links with other sites for the sole purpose of raising your own search engine ranking then you should only trade with sites that have a page rank of 4 of 10 or higher.

Take caution, that if the pages you link to are not in some way related to the content of your own site, you'll NOT get the full advantage of their page rank.

The Bottom Line

If the pages that you link to off your web pages are not relevant to your own content, they will not help you in any way to receive a better ranking on Google.

If you link to pages that are not already considered important to Google due to their own content and their own ranking, they won't help you much at all.

The bottom line? Don't link to someone just because they'll link to you. This will NOT help your ranking. Link to other sites because they have quality content that directly relates to the content of your site in some way.

Think of it this way; link to sites that will offer your visitors relevant information to what they came to your site for. Actually visit the sites you link to and make sure that they offer quality content instead of 'fluff'.

Remember that Google's main purpose is to provide relevant search results to the people that use the Google Search Services. To keep their users happy, they only want to send them to sites that are considered important not only because of the content they provide, but because they are considered important enough by related sites to actually provide a link to them as a resource.

While Google is not the ONLY search engine optimization there, it is the most widely used 'provider' of search results. Many of the 'major' search engines get their results directly from Google! A strong page rank and high ranking in Google can mean free search engine positioning from other search engines that normally only accept 'paid inclusions'.

One Last Note

Some web masters refuse to exchange relevant links due to a page rank of less than 4 of 10. This may bite you later, if the site that wants to link to you now, ranks higher later. Don't refuse a link exchange solely due to their lacking page rank.

If a site has quality content, and it's relevant to your site, exchange links with them anyway. Just because they don't have a high page rank today, doesn't mean they won't soon be considered important in the eyes of the Google-bots.

Keep your link exchanges relevant, and make sure the content of the sites you link to is good, solid information. Soon enough, you'll find these quality sites wanting to link to you too. Remember, content really is the most important thing... they don't call it the 'information super highway' for nothing you know!
